The rejects

I am going to say that our pizza from the other night was a reject. If you note in the picture the pizza seems as though everything on it was counted and placed. It is not one of those pizza that you open up and feel like it was made just for you....it looked like an assembly line meal. maybe that is the blandness of the pizza toppings that we ordered...but I would image that most people will order the Pepperoni or cheese toppings. The other thing that I thought was gross was the grease that was on the bottom of the box. Is there a something like a corn flour that could soak some of that up with out affecting the taste of the pizza.

The good....

For today's homework we are to discuss the "Ideal Pan Pizza"
When I was in high school...we had open lunch and there was a pizza hut that was a few blocks from our school. We would all go in there and order our personal pan pizzas for lunch. They were hot and well baked...I do not remember them being overly greasy. But I do remember them tasting really good....I have always thought that maybe PAN pizza is something that really can only be really enjoyed if eaten right out of the over...somewhere in the transportation from the restaurant to home the effects of "gooey Pan" is lost.
Now as a Mom...PAN pizza is NOT always our first choice. and if it is...it is usually on a cold day where comfort foods are more appealing.
I have a good friend that I met while in a MOMS Club, that was from the Chicago area. And when she moved here she said that we had NO IDEA what good pizza was. She said the places back home had deep pan pizza, which did not mean thick bread, rather it meant "high crust to hold in the goods" She swore to it to the point that she had family send pizzas for them to bake at home.
I would say...if PAN pizza was on the agenda and I could have it prepped to my liking....I would ask for a seasoned hand tossed bottom, with high seasoned sides that make it almost bowl like I guess...so that you HAVE to eat it with a fork. Something to make it so that the grease was not cupped inside of the pizza though as well...

The entire Family

The experience....and the after thoughts

Pizza came...kids were excited to see the car pull up...as normally we will actually just pick it up! SMART pizza driver enjoyed our Halloween decorations! ((BONUS TIP! LOL)) took a picture of the pizza before the kiddos dug in, and asked the kids what they thought...all thumbs up from the beginning. First bite...thumbs up again....second bite...the story started to change!
Jack - " I love the pizza because it tastes like bread" (as I thought he would say) "But it tastes like Daddy's bread (white bread) so it needs more sauce!"
Izzy- " I like it less fluffy and more flat"
Charlie - "It is OK but it needs more sauce and cheese"
Tony- " Less bread is better, or it needs to have more taste to the crust. Sauce is very marinara tasting"
Me (Ingrid)- "Very bland and not worth the extra calories"
Summary is that we would NOT be ordering the PAN pizza again from Pizza Hut. On a side note though the bread sticks were a huge hit! IF they could somehow add some of the seasoning from those to the crust of the pizza maybe that would make a difference.
On a completely differnt side note I think it would be wonderful if a pizza company would start/look into offering a pizza with a whole grain crust and lowfat (not fat free) cheese's. The difference in calories is HUGE and the taste is not all that different! Will post the pictures in a seperate post!

The where....

typically we do our pizza nights on Friday's. Always have..when I was a child it was the same thing started because of the catholic religion...cheese pizza Friday is what my parents always called it during lent. I guess the habit stuck...as we do the same thing with our kiddos...though it is for the pure enjoyment of not cooking once a week now! :-) Tonight I allowed the kids to help with the choice when I told them we were ordering pizza. I let them know that we were doing PAN pizza....and my oldest instantly said so that means we have to go through Pizza hut. Charlie and Izzy are not typically think crust pizza lovers...they like topping and a good crust more...Jack is a "bread" kiddo so he is thrilled. though we all agree that they have the best bread sticks...and lucky for us...it is included in one of the specials the young lady on the phone mentioned to us! We ordered by phone as I am not as fond of ordering on line. 895-1111...option 1 for delivery....enter my 10 digit phone number and being transferred to the Cemetery Rd location. the girl that answered the phone admits she does not know the specials for the day and asks for help. We decide on one large PAN pizza half cheese half pepperoni, an order of bread sticks and a 2 liter of sierra mist for $15. Said it will be about 40 minutes...kind of a long wait...but OK as we ordered early (4:45) and usually eat dinner as a family between 6-6:30. I was surprised to hear that they no longer take checks for delivery.
Off to do homework while we wait for pizza...will most likely throw together a salad to go with dinner as well! Stay tuned for the experience....
